The Gruesome Animated Film Ending That Haunts Fans
Among all the adult-oriented cartoon movies I’ve personally watched, no other has lingered in my mind quite like the fear-filled ending of a viscerally violent and overwhelingly transgressive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.
Back in 2015’s, this Spanish filmmaker developed a grim, melancholy and frequently brutal world with some tiny , forlorn twinges of hope.
While The Unicorn Wars feels like it stemmed from a drive to expand animation even more, the director clarified that it was rather an attempt to convey a universal, cross-cultural theme about “the common origin of all wars.”
That message is conveyed by means of a group of vividly colored bears , clearly based on a popular series of lovable characters.
Being raised in a culture centered on warmongering as well as the defense industry, many of these creatures are obsessed with slaughtering unicorns, due to a holy book that claims them they were once kings of the forest, before the horned beings drove them out.
A few have not completely bought into the brainwashing, and would rather try out narcotics and fornicate outdoors.
Unlike their cuddly counterparts, these bright beings show sexual organs and clear urges.
For a particular notably brutal, skeptical animal, the character Bluey, the battle against unicorns turns into a path to control — and particularly to dominance over his softer, kinder brother the character Tubby.
This bear behaves aggressively , an obvious psychopath , and when horror takes over his squad and kills his fellow soldiers individually, he takes progressively control for himself, through ever more violent, damaging approaches.
At the same time, the horned creatures are suffering their own horror, in the form of an expanding, deadly beast in their forest.
“In the early stages, it appears as a comedy,” the filmmaker stated. “Yet it evolves into a more intense and melancholic movie. And ultimately, it’s a terrifying movie.”
The Unicorn Wars begins feeling a bit like one of the more whimsical movies by an iconic animator, that uncover a naughty glee in allowing drawn beings swear, fire weapons, or sex each other up.
Then it evolves into closer to a bleaker work by that same artist, featuring progressively explicit brutality and a tangible connection to genuine tragedy of war.
By the end, it is a complete theatrical horror carnage.
The horror that turns the film an ideal spooky-season movie kicks in well before than indicated.
The Unicorn Wars is suited for the most dedicated gorehounds, for enthusiasts of graphic films who want to see a movie they haven’t ever seen on-screen before, and who can handle a plot that offers unflinching brutality.
See it with the lights off free from interruptions, and that ending will burrow under your skin and take up residence there.
