Six Individuals Detained After 12 Million Euro Robbery on Precious Metals Facility in the French Republic
A group of six individuals carrying assault rifles and handguns detonated charges to breach the security of a gold refining laboratory located in the city of Lyon, causing light wounds to five workers during what is being called the most recent prominent daytime heist to occur in the country.
The bold operation was carried out on Thursday late morning, with police forces quickly arresting the alleged criminals and recovering the stolen goods valued at approximately €12 million (£10.5M), as stated by authorities.
Five employees of Laboratoires Pourquery received light wounds as a result of the detonation, and three employees were taken to a medical facility for assessment, the regional prefecture announced. Twenty-eight employees were at the location when the thieves struck.
The individuals, considered experienced criminals, were detained shortly after the incident in the nearby town of the town of VĂ©nissieux, a source close to the investigation stated.
A female participant involved in the heist was likewise arrested, according to law enforcement.
“Six people who employed explosive devices in an attack on a metals processing plant in Lyon, France were caught in the act,” the nation's interior minister declared on social media, lauding police for their “decisiveness, speed and control”.
High-caliber firearms, handguns and detonation devices were also confiscated.
The heist took place as authorities on the same day detained five further people, including a primary suspect, in relation to the bold Louvre museum robbery.
Many investigative personnel have been searching for four robbers who utilized a lorry featuring an elevating platform and cutting equipment to breach a first-floor gallery at the prestigious institution on October 19th, fleeing with precious items estimated to be worth €88M.
In another notable incident, burglars recently forced their way into the Parisian museum of natural history, taking gold specimens valued at more than one million dollars. A 24-year-old Chinese woman was apprehended in the current month in Barcelona in relation to the burglary, officials confirmed.
