Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on BBC
The acclaimed police drama AC-12 is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, saying she was "so excited" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The previous series concluded in 2021 with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Speculation about a potential return have been widespread ever since, but confirmation only arrived this week.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with AC-12 no longer existing and renamed as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle misconduct within the law enforcement.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
However, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had so many fans watch the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in the UK was thought to be over while the series was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm very happy the show is returning! Eager to work with Jed, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "While anticipating the unit days of Christmas, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those unexpected twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Kelly Macdonald.
The BBC has not yet announced when the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no plans for further series.
Nevertheless, the corporation announced on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
