"We are going to have a fantastic experience regardless," said Katie. "We have to go with that mindset."

"Obviously it is disappointing we aren't fighting for more, but we have spent so much money as it is."

"We'll enjoy celebrating the holidays in Australia. It is also a new experience for us away from home over Christmas."

A teacher, Katie is intent on maximizing the lengthy journey as part of her Christmas holidays.

"As a backup plan, I can play golf to fall back on," Katie concluded.
