Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh game mode called Casual Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option resembles the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:

  • Every squad includes just 8 human participants, with the remaining made up of AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities done by real players award complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
  • Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.

In short, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it provides more options for players looking for different methods to have fun with the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that not everyone will be happy. In other words, a lot of BF6 fans are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your competitors," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," while another details all the issues they believe to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this bot mode."

On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title all the time. Let them find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response on Twitter explains that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," and another applauds the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Constructive Criticisms and Community Feedback

All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have pointed out that it will make wait times more extended for other modes because of the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions often face AI-filled matches in the current modes. It also seems a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it primarily centers on fighting AI opponents.

Lastly, one of the biggest complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to provide full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate XP farming from the mode. Thus this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, as per a Reddit comment. A different user labels this addition as the developers "dropping the ball so hard, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to adjust it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has proven anything so far with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to feedback. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
