In a surprising crossover event that challenges traditional predictions, Ubisoft has announced an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected holiday event runs from November 25 through December 22, offering complimentary extra story content for Shadows players.

Mysterious Questline Disclosed

According to the formal release, "An unusual meeting leads characters Naoe and Yasuke into a original mission, where whispers of prohibited rituals and monstrous changes echo through the obscurity." The storyline presents a "unusually dressed woman named Ada" who assigns the duo with traveling into the Crystalline Cavern—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her ally from a hidden group.

The questline focuses on "peculiar tests and a terrifying enemy" and is available to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Recognizable Locations and Metamorphoses

The preview highlights the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan recreated as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was previously where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through generations. The preview finishes with a striking sequence showing a character, likely the hostage, morphing into a Titan that towers over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Items and Additional Content

Players who finish the adventure will obtain an unique katana together with multiple items secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also includes purchasable Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

• Titan-inspired outfit for Yasuke
• Mikasa outfit for Naoe
• Unique arms
• Survey Corps mount

Newest Free Story Update

This release also introduces the game's third no-cost story addition, titled "The Enigma." This lighthearted quest partners Naoe and Yasuke as they trade characteristic abilities: Naoe reveals a dramatic version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires subduing stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also features a original environmental puzzle that may finally explain some lingering questions from the main storyline.

Earlier Anime Crossovers

This represents not the first time the Assassin's Creed franchise has collaborated with well-known anime properties. The series earlier featured a 2020 crossover story uniting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla informally featured a quest that clearly nodded to the popular series One-Punch Man.
